TIER 12
The ancient Nidhogg, a powerful dragon that was imprisoned deep within the roots of the World Tree, was once released to provide aid to the denizens of the Element of Frost. However, it was too powerful and strong-willed to be controlled. Thus, the followers of Frost had no other alternative but to imprison the frost dragon again; they have to devise another plan to tame this monster, if they truly needed its help against their enemies.
The World Tree is a powerful Tree of the Gods that has access to almost all realms in the world. It is an entity of ancient primal magic. The Guardian of Frost thought that this natural magic would tame Nidhogg, but only barely. Nidhogg fell into a deep slumber, occasionally waking to try and resist its imprisonment. It would claw and bite at the roots of the World Tree, and as the sap and lifeblood of the World Tree seeped out, the Tree then once again subdued the beast. The Nidhogg is an ancient beast with an inherent desire to destroy and such ancient bestiality and nature cannot be altered with. What the lifeblood of the World Tree did was to change something within the Nidhogg. It was slow, but constant.
As the Tree's lifeblood entered the Nidhogg's system, it started to cleanse and alter the descendants of the monstrous dragon. Although Nidhogg remains imprisoned to this day, its offspring are released from the bowels of the Tree and they are then used in the service of the Element of Frost.
These little frost dragons are splitting images of the original monster. They not only have draconic scales that protect their flesh, the Nidhoggs also have ice shards and crystals protruding outwards, seeking to hurt any attackers unwise enough to mount a direct assault on the dragon. Dragons are thought to have a wide range of magical abilities but the Nidhogg has only ice as its weapon. It breathes out cold frost at attackers and it is known to even chill the air with the beating of its wings as it takes flight, causing the weather to change, resulting in hail or even a blizzard.
The Nidhoggs are sent out to battle only as a last resort. As the Element of Frost focuses mostly on defense, the Nidhogg is a way of telling their enemies that they have had enough. If their walls and defenses are breached, the sight of a horde of Nidhoggs flying through the air is frightening to behold, and it truly shows that the Element of Frost will not hesitate to fight back fiercely for the safety of their domain.
