TIER 7

Selkies are a type of merfolk who have adapted to living in the cold northern waters. A Selkie is not that different compared to a Mermaid - while a Mermaid has a human body, a fishtail and is covered with scales, a Selkie has a human body, a seal's tail and flippers, and just like a mammal, is covered with thick fur and hair.

Like most water nymphs, Selkies has a distinct but troubling trait - they love to pull unsuspecting "prey" down into the waters, effectively drowning them. Sometimes, Selkies' victims die of shock and cold even before they drown, as the waters these creatures live in are so cold to the extent that they are almost inhospitable. With so few of the living around them, the Selkies cherish every moment they encounter lost sailors or travelers, pulling them down under to their deaths.

For allies of the Frost, however, they need not fear of such attacks. There have been stories and even legends of individuals, who have been saved from the freezing seas and dragged inland to safety. They were even nursed back to health. However, when they were conscious enough, they would find that their mysterious saviors have all but disappeared. They only remember glimpses of the faces of females, fur and flippers.

Selkies often mount their attacks in the frozen seas. They are effective in surprising their enemies and pulling them under, where most would have little to no chance of escape. On the surface, Selkies look friendly. They are, however, not shy to bare their claws and fangs as they attack their enemies.

On land, Selkies are very much cumbersome. They lack the grace and agility they show in the waters and thus, become easy targets for their enemies. Selkies are smart creatures though. Unless really necessary and knowing that victory is near, Selkies will almost never leave the water.
