AEGIR Lord of Waves and Sunken Treasure (Norse)

Aegir, a mighty patron of the Element of Water, is not a loving God at all. Being the personification of the seas himself, Aegir's mood is as temperamental as the changing of tides.

Aegir is a giant, towering over the other patrons even in his passive form. Going topless most of the time, Aegir wears a long kilt made of silk and kelp. Precious pearls form his belt, and a white shell adorns his head - a sign of him being Lord over his domain. These are simple luxuries for a powerful being but Aegir cares not. What matters most to this proud patron of the Water, is that the seas are kept safe from weaklings, for whom he will not give his blessing to. After all, the ocean is not a place for fun and games.

Aegir guards his treasures jealously, and many of his treasures come from the vessels that pass through his kingdom. Even ships that pay homage to this God are not always safe from his wrath. For Aegir, only the strongest are deemed worthy to roam his seas - those who are not will be sunk by waves, created by Aegir himself. As a result, Aegir is often seen as a cruel God. Yet, there is reason for him doing so. The realm of Water is one of the most precious and delicate, second to Nature. All patrons vow to guard their realm zealously, for without their kingdoms, they too would perish. If Aegir does not allow only the good and strong to pass through his seas, then it would be easily invaded by the real enemies of the Element of Water - for those he bless would help defend his realm.

His favored weapon is a long spear made of silver and pearls - Torrent. The name is appropriate for a weapon so fast and accurate, that it creates gigantic ripples in its path, shattering anything within it's range even before it reaches its target. Aegir uses it extensively, especially when he is ready for battle. Unlike most Gods, Aegir is protected only minimally - a sign of his battle prowess and confidence.

Even though Aegir favors few, and blesses even fewer, there are still many who call this Patron their almighty protector. With his blessing, vessels are not only kept safe from the treacherous waves, but they are guaranteed a bountiful reward, regardless of what the vessels hold. Merchants often pray to Aegir, not so much for a peaceful sail, but more for a wealthy return for the goods they intend to sell over their travels. Aegir is then promised a part of their profits, to be sacrificed on the return journey. Any who fails to satisfy their side of the blessing, or bargain, will be claimed by Aegir; to lay in the watery depths forever.
