TIER 2
Afancs are creatures that are commonly found in freshwater lakes all over the world, although some individuals thrive in coastal areas, venturing into the oceans for short periods of time. Considered by many to be monstrous in appearance, Afancs look like gigantic beavers covered with tough crocodilian scales and coarse brown fur. They are also equipped with sharp teeth and claws that are used mostly for digging, but can also be used against unfortunate creatures who happen to stray too close to their dens.
Afancs are useful allies recruited into the Element of Water not for their teeth and claws, but rather, for their ability to purify water bodies and create pools of water when they are not readily available. A small bowl-shaped cavity lies on the top of its head, which is highly sloped and angled, and is filled with clear spring water. This cavity never runs out of water - it does not spill and it will never disappear due to evaporation. Afancs use this water to purify lakes that have been tainted, either by natural or magical causes. They are also able to create new bodies of water, simply by digging an indentation in the ground and scattering droplets of its precious water all over, then waiting for its magic to work.
However, this cavity of water is also the link to their magical abilities and life force. With it, they can wander far from water and survive, never drying out. But the more they use their magic, the more their life force is depleted. Unless they return to a fresh lake, the Afancs will fade away from existence. However, until that happens, they work tirelessly for the Element of Water, bringing life to scorched lands and fighting against the enemies of their Element.
